the guilt of wanting more

Quick reminder: the Untangle Your Money Beliefs workshop is happening on February 26th. If you don’t have your ticket yet, don’t wait longer—this is the space where we do the deep healing work.

Hello love,

Have you ever felt guilty for wanting more? More money, more ease, more beauty in your life?

Me too. For the longest time.

When I was little, I learned early that money was a problem.

I was raised by my mother, a single mom who was unemployed for years. She did her best in that regard and we never went hungry.

But of course, we could never have nice things.

No brand-name clothes, no real barbie dolls, not even Nutella. Other kids had the trendy sneakers, the cool jackets, the little treats in their lunchboxes. I was dressed and fed in discount shops.

And I remember the shame of not having those things. And then, more shame for feeling shame about it.

Even now, as I share this with you, it doesn't feel comfortable. Wanting more feels ungrateful.

When I visited my dad, things were different. He wasn’t rich, but he worked in a bank and he had excellent taste so his life looked like a page in a glossy magazine. Nice clothes, beautiful decorations, exotic travel plans every year. He had the kind of life I secretly wanted.

But I didn’t belong there. I always had this strong feeling of being the guest, and that all the beauty in his life wasn't mine to want.

Recently, as I've been preparing for the upcoming workshop by doing more inner work myself, I noticed how this experience shaped some of my money beliefs:

  • Wanting more is bad, ungrateful.
  • Fancy things isn’t for people like me.
  • Spending money for myself is unnecessary and bad.

I'm phrasing it in a very simple and childish way because these beliefs stem directly from my childhood, and I heard them in my own little girl's voice while I was doing some IFS (Internal Family System) journaling.

If you're not familiar, IFS is a powerful methodology used to connect with different “parts” of ourselves: the ones that hold fear, the ones that push us, the ones that protect us, etc.

And when I looked deeper, I found 3 parts at play : The Guilt and the Boss Girl, two protectors working hand in hand, and behind them, the Inner Child.

🤍 I welcomed my Inner Child first, gave her understanding and compassion, and then reminded her that she is worthy regardless of how much we earn or spend, regardless of how much she wants. She is worthy of desiring and receiving.
🤍 Then, I noticed the Boss Girl. She's the one that pushes me to overwork and overdeliver to make sure I do my best to be financially safe. I thanked her for her support and reminded her that hustling doesn't equate with safety or money. That there are gentler ways to bring safety and income. We negotiated a middle ground.
🤍 I embraced Guilt, thanking her for trying hard to protect my Inner Child for so so long, and unburdened that part by telling her that I'm the one in charge now, I'm taking care of us, and there's no need for this uncomfortable feeling where instead there can be abundance and joy.

This is the deep work we do in Untangle Your Money Beliefs.

Not just thinking about money differently. Not just forcing new beliefs. But actually sitting with the different parts of ourselves at play, understanding them, and unburdening them so that we can feel true peace around money, instead of guilt or shame.

If this resonates with you and you want to experience it live, I’d love to have you in the workshop.

We gather live on February 26th at 4PM UK time (presence highly recommended but replay available).
