Hello love,
Confession time... I've done a lot of work around my money wounds, but it turns out it's a topic that keeps on giving...
Every time I need to have a money conversation, whether I'm asking someone to pay be back, or I'm announcing the price of my services, or something as simple as discussing budget with my husband... my jaw stiffens, my chest tightens and I brace for impact.
I've worked on my capacity to trust, to embody abundance, to allow myself to receive. I've studied, journaled and practiced all the money mindset tools. And all of it helped... to a point.
Because that tightness in my body has nothing to do with mindset.
It’s about what my body remembers.
- It remembers tension, betrayal, scarcity, and shame, lived and witnessed across generations.
- It remembers judgment that always seemed to follow any decision related to money.
First, there was my grandmother, my nonna.
After decades in an unhappy marriage, she finally left her husband at 65.
Not because of his moods, but because she discovered he'd hidden money in a secret account in his name while pretending they had none and forcing her to clean supermarket toilets to make ends meet.
The argument that followed was so violent my uncle had to threaten to call the police.
That's when I learned: money can be dangerous. Generosity is love. Keeping money is selfish.
Later, my mother taught me another version of the story: that sometimes, to survive, you do what you must.
I remember the shame of watching her swap price tags at the supermarket, or hide small items in her purse.
I was twelve.
I still remember how small and scared I felt when she got caught.
So now, when I need to speak about money, a part of me flinches, whispering: be careful, don’t upset anyone, don’t be greedy. And then another voice joins is: but scarcity makes you do bad things.
For years, I repressed and rejected those stories. I wanted to be "above" them. Now I'm learning to be grateful for them.
You see, money still feels emotional not because somethings wrong with you, but because it touches everything you’ve ever believed about safety, belonging, and love.
When you listen to those emotion, in a safe and compassionate way, instead of fighting them, you open a doorway to healing.
What about you?
